The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, originally written by Washington Irving and published in 1820 inspired the 1999 film The Legend of Sleepy Hollow directed by Tim Burton (we LOVE BURTON).

In each of these tales, set in the late 1700's, shortly after the American Revolution, a small village (Sleepy Hollow) is haunted by a creature from the dark that hunts at night, on the roads just outside the village, killing. The story says it's a Hessian Soldier (German soldier, from the state of Hesse, who were hired by the British to fight in the American Revolution [circa 1775-1783]). Specifically, a HEADLESS Hessian Soldier, on the back of his battle steed, seeking revenge.

And here you have our version of the HEADLESS HORSEMAN!

Made with acrylic yarn, poly fill and poly-beads, and magnets (the magnets are in the neck of the man and the bottom of the pumpkin). The head is not actually attached, following our tale of inspiration!
